Accessibility
We want everyone to be able to use this site, including people who use a keyboard, a screen reader, zoom or a small screen. Our target is the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA.
What we check
- An automated scan (axe-core) of the home page and this page, part of the site's test suite.
- A skip link to the main content, and a visible outline on whatever has keyboard focus.
- Every live check on the home page works with a keyboard alone, using standard menus and buttons.
- Pages reflow to a 320 pixel wide screen without scrolling sideways.
- Body text is at least 19 pixels, and no text is smaller than 15 pixels.
- Each result area is marked as a live region, so a screen reader is told when it changes. We have not yet checked this with a screen reader.
What an automated scan cannot prove
A scan catches mechanical problems, such as missing labels and low contrast. It cannot tell whether the wording makes sense, whether results are announced in a helpful order, or how the site feels with a particular screen reader. We have not yet tested with people who rely on assistive technology, and we would value hearing from you.
